Work experience at Ocean Youth Radio
Ocean Youth Radio offers Work Experience placements for those wanting more professional experiences in the creative industries.
Ocean Youth broadcasts live from its Winner Street Studios on Saturdays and boasts an impressive line-up of young presenters!
Ocean Youth is also a production strand of Sound Communities and many other projects, such as the 300 Seconds podcast, are produced through Ocean Youth.
We have launched a new branch of Ocean Youth, ‘Sonar’ which is aimed towards those 16 and older. It’s a chance to host specialised music shows, talk about your favourite things and even broadcast your DJ sets.
What to Expect-
During your Work Experience at Ocean Youth Radio, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities, giving you a real taste of life in the radio industry. Here’s some of what you can expect:
Hosting and producing shows
You’ll have the chance to assist with or even host your own radio segments. From choosing music and creating playlists to writing scripts and engaging with listeners, you’ll experience what it’s like to be on air.
Podcasting
You’ll learn the art of podcast production, from idea development to recording and editing.
Technical skills
Get hands-on training with industry-standard radio equipment, including RODE desks, microphones, and editing software. You’ll learn how to produce high-quality audio content.
Behind the scenes
Learn the ins and outs of what keeps a radio station running smoothly. On Day 1 you’ll research the radio industry, which will then help you to assist with live shows and, with support, supervise our presenters. You’ll help with social media content and think about how best to build Ocean Youth’s online presence.
Collaboration and teamwork
You’ll work closely with other young people and experienced staff, developing skills in communication, teamwork, and problem- solving.
This work experience is designed to give you real-world skills, confidence, and a deep understanding of the radio and broadcasting industry.
